TODD FAZIO

Coach Fazio is entering his seventh season as head coach at Desert Mountain High School and fourteenth year in coaching.


The Wolves have qualified for the 5A state tournament in each of Coach Fazio’s six seasons, winning the 2007 5AII State Championship, and getting to the 5AII Final Four in 2011.


Coach Fazio’s teams have set 21 school records, including most wins in a season, post-season wins, and defensive field-goal percentage. 


Coach Fazio was the 2007 Arizona Coaches Association 5AII Coach of the Year, Arizona Republic 5A Coach of the Year, East Valley Tribune Large School Coach of the Year, and the 2009 Desert Valley Region Coach of the Year.

Prior to coming to Desert Mountain, Coach Fazio had seven years of coaching experience at the high school and college levels in Iowa, Minnesota, and Arizona.


Fazio started his coaching career as a head coach at the age of 22 at Estherville-Lincoln Central High School (Class 3A, Estherville, IA).   He became a graduate assistant coach at Bemidji State University (NCAAII, Bemidji, MN) and head coach at Waukee High School (Class 4A, Waukee, IA).  He moved to Arizona in 2003 and was an assistant coach at Horizon High School under Randy Walker from 2003-2005.


In high school, Fazio competed in cross country, basketball, and track at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa.  In 1993, he led the basketball team to the school’s only state championship.  He was on the All-Tournament Team and was a First Team All-State selection.  Fazio was also selected to play on the Iowa Senior Select Team where the team won the 1994 USA-Australian Tournament in Melbourne, Australia.


Fazio went on to play college basketball at Frank Phillips College (NJCAA I) in Borger, Texas where he was team captain and led the Western Junior College Athletic Conference in assists (7.8 per game) and 3-point field goal percentage (49.7%).  Fazio went back to Iowa and played at Iowa Lakes Community College (NJCAA II) in Estherville, Iowa where he was team captain and was fourth in the nation in assists (8.9 per game).  Iowa Lakes finished 24-8 and ranked 7th in the nation.


Fazio finished his playing career at Bemidji State University (NCAA II) in Bemidji, Minnesota where he played for legendary coach, Dave Gunther.  He was a two-year team captain and led the team in assists, 3-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and steals. 


Coach Fazio resides in Phoenix, Arizona and teaches physical education at Desert Mountain High School. 


Coach Fazio and his wife, Charlene, have a daughter, Isabella (3).
